Started in 2026 by Zoe Hoover, in collaboration with Downtown Batman and Carolina Captain America, Community Heroes is a nonprofit organization built to help legitimize Real-Life Superheroes. Members of Community Heroes are costumed activists all over America that engage in community outreach, feeding the homeless, helping the less fortunate, cleaning up litter, speaking up for the voiceless, and much more.
An issue a lot of real-life superheroes run into is that they are not taken seriously or not trusted because they have a secret identity. Community Heroes aims to help solve this issue. All members go through a background check, which involves a SSN trace, searching sex offender registries, a global watchlist search, and a national criminal database search.
We know that secret identities are important, so access to these background checks is limited to only our outreach coordinator who then reports the results to our leadership team. This way, only one trusted individual handles secret identities for maximum privacy. If a hero’s background check comes back clean, we’ll invite them to join our team and our outreach coordinator will speak with non-profits and other organizations in that hero’s area to help them get involved in upcoming events such as food drives, fundraisers, and more.
Non-profit organizations can reach out to Community Heroes directly to invite their local heroes to promote and be involved in their upcoming events. Real-Life Superheroes have a habit of attracting an audience online, and we want to use these audiences to help advertise upcoming community and social outreach opportunities in each hero’s area. Membership is free, and local organizations don’t need to pay anything for heroes to attend or promote their events. We just want to help strengthen our communities. shelters, and other organizations.
